It’s almost as legendary off-roader as the Jeep Wrangler or Ford Bronco. The new line, including an electric version, skillfully ensures passenger comfort regardless of terrain and temperature. The G 580 is enhanced by its electric motor-only version, with smooth and quiet action after every input that makes off-roading almost too easy.

2024 Ford Bronco – 8.7/10

The Ford Bronco does just about everything for outdoor adventurers, offering itself as a strong contender in every way. Buyers can choose a two- or four-door version with a hard or soft top. Trim levels and packages are named and selected according to the level of adventure requirements. A host of accessories are available for buyers to make it their own, while road smart options, cameras and gauges keep everyone safe. As with the Wrangler, the doors, roof and other parts are removable. It’s also shorter than a pickup truck, making it easier to get in and out of trails.

2024 Jeep Wrangler – 8.6/10

The Jeep Wrangler is virtually unaffected by terrain, weather or inclines in the hands of a skilled driver. Even in stock form, it can handle some of the toughest trails outdoor adventurers can throw at it. Like the Bronco, it is offered with either a manual or automatic transmission. Like the Bronco, its doors and roof can be removed. Now offered in plug-in hybrid form on the Wrangler 4xe, it can travel nearly 20 miles on electric power alone.

2024 Toyota Land Cruiser – 8.4/10

The Toyota Land Cruiser has a history as a legendary off-road vehicle that is ripe and ready for outdoor adventures. The new model has a redesigned exterior with a more rugged and modern look, as well as a spacious and luxurious interior. The Land Cruiser has a full-time four-wheel drive system. Drivers can choose from six different driving modes to help navigate rough terrain, as well as a traction control function that automatically adjusts speed and braking on steep off-road slopes. The Land Cruiser also comes with a 12.3-inch touchscreen, head-up display, wireless charging and a JBL sound system.

2024 Toyota Tacoma – 8.3/10

The 2024 Toyota Tacoma is a versatile and reliable pickup truck that can handle almost any outdoor adventure. The new model is offered with a hybrid powertrain that combines a 3.3-liter V6 engine with an electric motor to produce 437 horsepower and 583 pound-feet of torque. The Tacoma also has a number of features that make it ready for off-road challenges, such as a locking rear differential, a multi-terrain monitor, a traction control system and a TRD adjustable suspension. The Tacoma’s cabin is spacious and comfortable, with a 10-inch touchscreen, wireless charging, a panoramic sunroof, and a JBL sound system.

2024 Lexus GX – 8.2/10

The luxury three-row Lexus GX, like its stablemate the Land Cruiser, comes with four-wheel drive, locking differentials and camera views to keep outdoor adventurers safe on the trails. The new GX is larger than the outgoing model, with a new design that improves lean approach and departure angles for easier off-road travel. The new Electronic Kinetic Dynamic Suspension System (E-KDSS) locks and unlocks the front and rear stabilizer bars to help when more wheel articulation is needed. The GX can tow 9,000 pounds.

2025 Rivian R1T – 8.1/10

The 2025 Rivian R1T can handle off-the-grid experiences for weekend or week-long outdoor adventures. The electric R1T is spiffy, but can also tow up to 11,000 pounds. It has a payload capacity of 1,760 pounds, making it ideal for hauling your gear and equipment. The top R1T has a four-wheel drive system and an adjustable air suspension that can raise ground clearance up to 14.5 inches. The R1T also has a transmission tunnel that provides additional storage space, or it can be equipped with a camping kitchen.

2024 Ford Ranger – 8.1/10

The redesigned 2024 Ford Ranger comes with new driver-assistance technologies and features that make driving easier for both on-road and off-road outdoor adventures. It offers camera technology including Pro Trailer Backup Assist, an integrated trailer brake controller and a 360-degree camera. The Ranger is available with an Integrated Box Side Step and new folding rear seats that make it easier to carry large items in the cabin. The increased width between the wheel wells of this generation allows the truck to smoothly move loads up to four feet wide, plus the bed and cab jacks provide the ability to power a variety of devices.

2025 Rivian R1S – 8.0/10

The R1S SUV is almost as capable off-road as it gets, and may be even better suited for long weekends on the trails. The three-row R1S is comfortable and accommodating and offers three power levels, each more exciting than the last. It can travel up to 420 miles on a single charge, along with power outlets for appliances and tools. The R1S has adjustable suspension for when the going gets tough and multiple modes for city and highway.

2024 Ford Bronco Sport – 7.9/10

The compact Ford Bronco Sport isn’t the most powerful, but it’s incredibly capable compared to its competition. Its size allows it to squeeze into trails that larger vehicles can’t, and the available four-wheel drive and drive mode technology make navigating tough conditions a breeze. The Bronco Sport is easy to live with as a daily driver, but it doesn’t have as much cargo space as other SUVs of its size. The Bronco Sport can tow up to 2,200 pounds and is offered with the company’s CoPilot360 safety package, which includes adaptive cruise control, lane departure assist and navigation.

2024 GMC Canyon – 7.9/10

The 2024 GMC Canyon is a midsize pickup truck that offers many benefits for outdoor adventurers. The Canyon comes with a buyer’s choice of three engine options and can tow up to 7,700 pounds, best in class. Canyon also has an available off-road grade called the Canyon AT4, which adds a locking rear differential, skid plates, hill descent control and 31-inch all-terrain tires. The Canyon’s interior is spacious and comfortable, with a 10.5-inch touchscreen, wireless charging, a Bose sound system, and advanced safety systems.
